gorging the brain

Apr. 2nd, 2008 | 06:36 pm

Hiatus is boring, move or no move. Boring, I say! Where else can I rant?

Verily, I say unto you that I can pack no more. For I have run out of boxes.

But to more pressing matters. The tenth Harry Dresden book came out yesterday, Small Favor. This is a good thing, since Harry Dresden (who could mop the floor with Harry Potter) is one of the best characters in modern fiction. I've greatly enjoyed the evolution of his character arc from naive, romantic bumbler to battered, grim-handed Warden of the White Council, the man who faced down necromancers, Faerie Queens, vampires, megalomaniac demons, werewolves, and nastier things, and lived to tell about it (with numerous one-liners, of course). Dresden is such a fascinating character because life has so frequently knocked him around, and we the reader can relate (though, I confess, my average Negative Life Experience doesn't involve rabid zombies).

But! A vicious dilemma results. Shall I start reading the book chapter by chapter, or wait until the weekend and devour the whole thing in a single burst of brain-filling gluttony?
