going on hiatus, sort of

You see, it's not because I've wearied of writing or blogging or anything like that, but for something far more prosaic*: I have to move in less than a month. Yes, for the next several weeks I will be quite occupied with putting all my worldly chattels into flimsy cardboard boxes, and then taking everything back out of said flimsy boxes.

More detail is provided below in handy FAQ format.

Q: Why are you moving?

A: Because my lease is running out. Duh.

Q: So why not just re-sign it?

A: Well, I'm weary of this neighborhood (too many college students), the parking situation is abysmal, the traffic is dreadful, the predominant local businesses are bars and liquor stores (always a sure sign of urban decline), the only Internet service offered at my current complex is obviously administered by someone's comically incompetent son-in-law**, and my neighbors are either drunk, disorderly, or both.

Q: Do you have a new place lined up?

A: Why, yes, yes I do. It's in a far more advantageous location and the parking situation is vastly superior. In addition, the new place is 130 feet larger and $15 dollars cheaper. And I have a balcony.

Q: $15 cheaper for 130 feet more! And a balcony! Wow! You've been getting screwed the last two years, haven't you?

A: Don't remind me.

Q: When will you resume amusing and delighting readers with your brilliantly witty and insightful blog posts?

A: Probably the end of April, maybe early May. It depends how quickly I get Internet hooked up at my new place. Also, there's a pile of paperwork and address changes I have to get done first, after I actually move.

Q: So you won't blog at all during the next two months?

A: Well, no. If I get cool news, obviously I'll post it here. And, to tell the truth, I'm sure blogging while sometimes sound far more appealing than stuffing my stuff into flimsy cardboard boxes.

Q: Will you stop writing until after the move?

A: I was going to. But there are some exciting writing opportunities coming up over the next few days, and it'd be foolish to let them pass by. So I'll still be working on stuff.

Until we meet again, friends and neighbors.

*Or much less whiny, if you prefer.

**With 256 kilobits, I should not be getting download/upload speeds of 1.5 kilobytes a second. (To put that in perspective, it takes 11 minutes to download a 1 megabyte file.) It's also a bad sign when a business's only contact information is a PO box 90 miles away.
