froze those shadows

Mar. 5th, 2008 | 10:57 pm

At last! I finished the rough draft of "Frozen Shadows", which came to about 4900 words. This version probably works, since I didn't find the rough draft to be entirely loathsome in every respect. (A low standard for success, I know, but I'll take what I can get.) Next, I've accumulated a bit of new material, so it's time to start revising, editing, finalizing, and then submitting.

The life and works of the small-time writer, friends and neighbors. I'm essentially a hobbyist who makes a little money on the side. But doing this for a living must suck. I think the people who go on and on about quitting their day jobs and becoming the full-time writers are fooling themselves. The great majority of full-time writers with whom I have spoken (or corresponded) do not seem like terribly happy people.

(Or maybe they actually live in the Bahamas in gigantic mansions and sleep atop piles of money with sleek supermodels, and only pretend to be miserable so the rest of us don't horn in on their territory. I just don't know.)

On the other hand, maybe I'll take a few days off from writing, because my brain is fried. And I don't do this for a living, so if I skip out for a few days, it doesn't matter. Ha ha ha!
