pretensions of posh

For editing and revision purposes, I like to read things aloud. It's quite helpful for finding typos, for one thing. It's also useful for feeling out the flow of the words, the procession of one sentence into another. If something's awkward to say, then odds are it will be quite awkward to read.

I've spent the week writing and revising various nonfiction projects, since I want to get back into nonfiction in a serious (or at least more methodical) way. And for some reason, when I read a nonfiction project aloud, I want to do so in a British accent. Not a very good British accent, mind, but a British accent nonetheless. I'm not sure why. It sounds more authoritative, I guess.
