knight errant

Back from the road.
Splendid new decoration; my generous parents picked up this figure of a knight at a silent-auction fundraiser. Here you can see him charging into battle in the (apparently) hellish light from my table lamp. I suspect he's supposed to be a 12th-century French knight, to judge from the fleur-de-lis on the horse blanket. Also, the knight's armor is entirely chain, and plate did not predominate until the later Middle Ages.
Though I wonder who he's supposed to be. I suspect he's French, but the fleur-de-lis did not exclusively belong to the French monarchy. On his surcoat and kite shield, the knight has the sigil of a flower with five petals. Is that a real sigil, I wonder, or did the artist take artistic license, as artists are so wont to do?
But whether or not he's historically accurate, he'll definitely look quite splendid atop my desktop computer.
