101 Reasons To Stop Writing - metairony reaches new levels
Recently I stumbled across a blog called 101 Reasons To Stop Writing, and found it darkly amusing. The guy who writes the site, Sean Lindsey, states that his mission is to convince would-be writers "...to give up...to abandon your ridiculous dreams and get back to paying your taxes". To date, there only appear to be 15 Reasons To Stop Writing posted, but maybe the site's still in beta.

To sum up, he's trying to convince people to give up writing by...

...writing blog posts about giving up writing. Yes. Do you see the irony, ladies and gentlemen? It was only poured on by the bucketful, after all.

They have calendars and other themed merchandise for sale. Of course they do.

I gotta admit, I didn't find this blog funny. And I generally have a keen appreciation for dark humor and irony.

One of the main reasons I didn't care much for this blog was that several of the reasons really weren't . . . reasons. If he can't follow a format for the first fifteen entries, you gotta wonder what he'll be talking about come "Reason" #87.

Just saying.

I was wondering that myself. I suspect it's more of the kind of thing where people say "That's...funny" rather than actually laughing aloud.

And it's been months since he posted a Reason. I think he's burnt out.

Or, ironically, he stopped writing about stopping writing.

Well, ya know, since going to bad writers' and bad wannabe writers' houses and beating them with shovel handles until they quit writing makes them cry, sometimes you have to use the bad writer's tools against him.

"Sometimes you have to use the bad writer's tools against him".

In various sf movies, that's exactly the sort of thing the Admiral or whatever says about five seconds before his ship gets blown up.
