Leopard chess
Mac OS 10.5 "Leopard" came out on Friday, and I had a chance to play with it a bit today. There's a lot that I could write about Leopard; the interface changes, the addition of Time Machine, the implementation of virtual desktops, but I'm going to focus on the single most important feature.
Namely, has the Chess program been improved?
I'm sad to say that it has not, at least not visually:

Yes, the graphics do look a little bit sharper. But they're otherwise unchanged, and no new chess sets or boards have been added. Windows Vista's Chess Titans still looks nicer, graphically speaking:

But have things changed under the hood, I wonder? The program's engine has been upgraded from 2.2 to 2.3. Did that include a better chess engine?
There's only one way to find out. Back in March I pitted Vista's Chess Titans against the Chess program included with Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger" in a battle of ultimate chess domination, and the Mac came out on top. But can Leopard follow in the Tiger's footsteps? Will Mac OS keep its chess crown?
Rematch! See the results here in a few days.
