Tech Support of the Gods
To turn our attention from culinary delights for a moment, I'm pleased to report that I have a story in the October/November issue of AlienSkin Magazine, "Tech Support of the Gods". Here's a teaser:
"Shut up, Thor," said Mercury, turning back to Roger. "Anyway, look, like bird-face said, we’re consultants, right? And we were contracted to provide divinity management and prayer support services for humanity."
"What does that mean?" said Roger.
Mercury waved his hands. "You know, answer prayers, watch over the tides, keep the moon from falling out of the sky, that sort of thing."
"So you guys answer prayers?" said Roger.
Mercury nodded, relieved. "Yes. So . . ."
"Then why," said Roger, pointing at Mercury, "when I was in ninth grade, and I prayed that Jenny Thompson would go out with me, she didn’t?"
Mercury grunted. "Um . . ."
